Low NPSH pumps are designed for poor suction conditions and/or high application temperatures. The pumps are specially suited for handling poor inlet flows and liquid temperatures above 140 °F. The low-NPSH pumps are standard pumps provided with a special, oversized inlet impeller and chamber. This reduces the NPSH value and prevents erosion and destruction of the pump, piping system, and valves. The improved inlet design may expose the low-NPSH pump to a higher level of stress as compared to conventional pumps, without affecting the stability of operation.
